Getting the Best Education from an Accredited

There exist several hundred colleges in the US that provide masters in public health programs. A lot of these are Masters in Public Healthprograms in community health/preventive medicine and community health education. When looking through a selection of colleges offering the degree, make sure that the one you choose has been accredited by the CEPH.

What is the meaning of "CEPH"? How does picking only accredited colleges benefit the students? The CEPH or Council on Education for Public Health accredits colleges and their degrees in public health.

Accreditation is vital for students of these programs. It is generally the case that specialized schools for the subject have all their programs accredited together. You can verify that a program has been accredited by asking the authorities of the university.

It is necessary to note that there are different types of accreditation. Programs with a specialization should have the CEPH accreditation, while others may be all right with just the regional one. There is a generalized perspective adopted by the accrediting committees for regional accreditation.

The concentrated nature of the CEPH's accreditation makes it an excellent way to tell just how good the preparation in a program is. For instance, there are many specialized accreditors that cover education, physical therapy, nursing and many other fields. It is the CEPH, then, that deals with accreditation for universities and degrees in the public health discipline.

The requirements for getting the accreditation differ from one category to the other, with the two categories being accreditation for academies and accreditation for courses. The clear difference between the two is that the institutions offers a number of programs while a program is, well, the one program to be considered in the matter. The expectation is for universities in this discipline to provide the main concentrations in the course as options.

There are no requirements of multiple concentrations with a program. Even so, a lot of them do provide options for specialization. It is generally demanded that any academy in this field offer a doctors-level degree as well.

Students generally look to CEPH accreditation to guide them in identifying which courses or colleges are most worthwhile. The major concentrations for the discipline are Biostatics, Behavioral Sciences, Epidemiology, Environmental Health and Health Services Administration. Because accredited schools should offer at least one doctoral degree, students are assured of getting advanced degree opportunities.

Accredited schools can provide assistance in transferring credits between institutions, or during admission to advanced degrees. This is through the general acceptance of credits between accredited institutions, especially when the student's performance has been satisfactory and the credits to be transferred are fitting to the receiving institutions. Once the student has graduated, he can even take the Public Health Certification exam.

Those in masters in public health programs with accreditation also have the benefit of an edge over their competition in the job market. Students are also qualified for internships as well as fellowships supported by many federal agencies. They are also eligible to student assistance resources that are offered only through accredited schools.
